Jaipur is one of the most beautiful cities to see in Bharat (ancient India). It is a city full of incredible temples and palaces, very well preserved, full of colors, with many bazaars, museums... To visit Jaipur and all the temples you need at least 3 days/2 nights. Although I recommend adding 1 more day to see all the essential places.

1. Hawal Mahal, one of the most beautiful places to see in Jaipur


The Hawal Mahal Palace is one of the most beautiful places to see in Jaipur and one of the most popular images of the city. This Palace, also known as the Palace of the Winds, is a palace designed by the architect Lal Chand Usta and built in the year 1700 by order of Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh.


This temple, which stands out for its beautiful pink color, is made of pink sandstone and has 5 floors and 953 windows called jharokhas. These windows were built so that the women of the harem could see the city from them without being seen from the outside.


The Palace is characterized by its Rajput architectural style, a type of style that developed in the state of Rajasthan. It stands out for its bright colors and geometric shapes. It is a truly beautiful place and a must see in the city.

2. Stroll through the historic center


Walking through the historic city center is one of the best things to do in Jaipur. The vast majority of historical places to see in the city are located here and nearby. But the best thing about the area is walking down the street, enjoying the atmosphere and chaos of Jaipur, getting to know its bazaars...


3. Jaipur Bazaars


Jaipur has many bazaars. Markets full of stalls with jewelry, crafts, souvenirs, spices, food... they are a place full of atmosphere, different colors and aromas. Some of the best bazaars in Jaipur are Bapu Bazar, Johari Bazar, Chandpole Bazar, Nahru Bazar and Tripolia Bazar.

4. Jantar Mantar


Jantar Mantar is an astronomical observatory built in the 18th century by order of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur. This was one of 5 historic astronomical observatories built in the city. This is the largest and best preserved.


It is located in the center of the city, very close to the City Palace and the Hawa Mahal, you can walk from one point to another. The complex has 13 astronomical instruments used to measure time, the position of stars and study planets. These instruments have been built with brick, stone and marble.


Within the complex the most important instruments you will find are the Samrat Yantra (the sundial that measures time with a precision of 2 seconds), the Jantar Mantar (used to predict eclipses), the Ram Yantra (instrument to locate the stars and the planets) and the Dakshin Rashi (instrument to measure the demarcation of the signs of the zodiac), among several others.

5. The City Palace, a must see in Jaipur


The Jaipur City Palace is a three-tier palace complex built in the 18th century. It was the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur, the head of the Kachwaha Rajput clan. It was built by order of Maharaja Swai Jai Singh II who also ordered the construction of other essential things to see in the city. The palace is an example of Rajput architecture.


It is divided into three parts: The Chandra Mahal (this is the oldest palace in the complex, it was built in the 17th century to be the residence of the Maharaja and his family), the Mubarak Mahal (this palace was built in the 18th century and was used as an audience and reception hall) and the third is the Jantar Mantar (this palace was built in the 19th century and was used as the residence of the Maharaja's guests.




6. The Jal Mahal Palace, a must see in Jaipur


Known as the Water Palace, the Jal Mahal Palace is one of the essential places to see in Jaipur. It is a palace located in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake. It was built in the 18th century by order of Maharaja Sawai Singh in a rejput style, built of pink sandstone.

The Palace is distributed over three floors, each of them surrounded by a terrace. At the top it stands out for being crowned with a golden dome.

The main purpose of building the palace was to be a hunting lodge for Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the fifth ruler of the Kachwaha dynasty of Jaipur. He loved the ducks that lived in the lake.

Museums to visit in Jaipur


The city has quite a few interesting museums. Depending on the time you spend in Jaipur, you may have time to see more places and these three museums are the most interesting:


7. The Albert Hall Museum


This is the oldest museum in the city and is located in an impressive building that was built between 1887 and 1889. The Museum houses more than 20,000 works, including exhibitions of antiquities, textiles, jewelry, weapons, armor. , archaeological remains…


8. The Anokhi Museum


Anokhi Museum is a museum that houses a private collection dedicated to the art of hand printing. The museum houses around 2,000 pieces including printing blocks, tools, printed textiles...


9. The Jawahar Museum


The Jawahar Museum is an art museum founded in 1986 that showcases the art and culture of the Rajasthan region. The Museum houses around 20,000 works that include painting, sculptures, jewelry, weapons, archaeological remains, ceramics...

In addition, the museum also has an art and culture library, a conference hall and an auditorium.


10. Govind Dev JI Temple


The Govind Dev JI Temple is one of the most important Hindu temples to see in Jaipur. It is a temple that was built in the 18th century by order of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. In the temple you will find a sandalwood Krishna statue, considered one of the most revered statues of Krishna in the world. The temple is built in a rapjut style and entry is free.


11. Amber Fort, an impressive place to see in Jaipur


The Amber Fort is one of the most essential and impressive places to see in Jaipur. This palatial complex is located on the outskirts of the city, about 11 kilometers and can be easily reached by taxi.


This fort was originally built by the Meenas and over the years has been considerably expanded, reaching its peak during the reign of Maharaja Man Singh I, who made the fort his main residence. This fort is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

12. Khole Ke Hanuman Ji Temple


Khole Ke Hanuman Ji Temple is a Hindu temple built in the 17th century by order of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. It is a beautiful and essential temple to see in Jaipur. The temple houses a statue of Hanuman made of pink sandstone, considered one of the most revered images of Haniman across the world. It is a masterpiece of Hindu architecture that you cannot miss. Admission is free.

13. The Nahargarh Fort, a must see from Jaipur


Nahargarh Fort is one of the most beautiful places in Jaipur. It is an ancient fort that was built in the year 1734 by order of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. This was one of the three forts (along with Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort) that protected the city of Jaipur.

Although it is located on the outskirts of the city center, it is worth traveling here to visit. Is incredible.


14. Jaigarh Fort


This is the last of the three forts to see in Jaipur. This was built in the year 1726 by order of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. It was one of the largest and best preserved fortresses in the entire country. In the fortress you can still see a giant cannon dating back to the 18th century and about 3 original kilometers surrounding part of the fortress.



15. Birla Temple


The Birla Temple was built by the Birla family, one of the richest families in Bharat between 1977 and 1988. It is a temple of Hindu architecture, made of white marble adorned with floral motifs. The design of the temple was commissioned by the Hungarian architect Frigyes Ludwig.
