How to go from New York to Boston (and vice versa)

When we plan to take a trip of several hours by plane, we must always try to make the most of our days at the destination. Going from New York to Boston or vice versa is not very complicated and it is a fantastic opportunity to get to know two impressive cities on the East Coast of the United States. In addition, it is one of the most common excursions.

There are 350 kilometers between the two cities and in this post I will tell you 5 options on how to go from New York to Boston (and vice versa) so you can plan your trip.

HOW TO GO FROM NEW YORK TO BOSTON

1. Renting a car, a comfortable option to go from New York to Boston

The easiest and fastest option is to rent a car. Having your own transport allows you to mark the times, the stops and have the ease of going on your own. However, if your intention is only to make the journey from New York to Boston (or vice versa), you will not make any stops and when you arrive in the next city, you will park the car again, it does not make much sense. If you only need it for this journey, it is preferable to go by public transport (now I will tell you more).

You must bear in mind that there are only approx 350km, with a couple of stops it will take a maximum of 5 hours.

However, if your intention is to make a few stops between cities, renting a car is a good option to afford and visit the cities of Provicence and New Bedford. They are two very charming places that are worth visiting. And if you have all day, you can leave early and make these two stops and you will arrive at the next city at nightfall.

2. Excursion to Boston from New York, the most comfortable option for a day

If you don't have much time or you don't want to complicate your life too much, there is a 1-day excursion from New York to Boston (they are about 14 or 15 hours of excursion).

This excursion not only includes transportation, but also the guide. And you will have the security of visiting all the places of interest in Boston, without worrying about transportation or transfers.

The guide speaks in Spanish, so you can also learn all the details of the history of Boston and its most emblematic places, without missing a thing.

Before there was an excursion from Boston to New York that is currently unavailable. You can find out about new dates here.

3. How to go from New York to Boston (and vice versa) by bus, the cheapest option

The cheapest way to get from New York to Boston is by bus. There are many companies that connect the two cities from $10 per person per trip, reserving tickets online. The three best known are Megabus, Greyhound and Boltbus.

All companies arrive at the South Station bus terminal, in the financial area of Boston and a good option to stay in Boston.

The buses have Wi-Fi and plugs so you can connect your tablets, mobile phones... Bus journeys are usually longer due to traffic and stops. Even so, it is one of the best forms of transportation, since in addition to being an economical option, you have many schedules to find the option that best suits your trip.

4. How to go from New York to Boston by train (and vice versa)

For me the train is one of my favorite options in almost all my destinations. You save traffic, it is faster and more comfortable. However, sometimes these advantages are paid. And yes, going by train from New York to Boston or vice versa is more expensive.

Trains depart from Penn Station in midtown Manhattan and arrive at South Station in Boston. The journey takes 3h 50min, as long as you take the Amtrak Acela Express, the fastest train. Tickets usually range from $55 to $190. Depending on how far in advance you book. All trains have Wi-Fi.

I recommend that you buy the ticket online if you have already drawn up your itinerary and you have clear dates.

Keep in mind that renting a car is much cheaper. And if you have an international driver's license, it is the most convenient option if you prefer to go it alone.

5. Go by plane

Finally, you can go from New York to Boston by plane. The flight lasts less than an hour. However, you must take into account the margins of extra time required to take a plane. The time it takes to travel to the airport, the time to go through security control etc... So really, in my opinion it is the least practical option.

TRAVEL TIPS TO THE UNITED STATES

Before I start talking about the best areas to stay in Los Angeles and various accommodation options, I want to talk about the importance of traveling to the United States with travel insurance.

It is essential that if you travel to the United States you do so with additional medical travel insurance. Even if you have private insurance in your country of origin, many of them only cover a certain percentage and sometimes only cover basic care.

It is very important that you take out additional travel insurance that covers you in everything! Accidents happen, we get sick, we lose luggage or our documentation is stolen... Health care in the United States is extremely expensive, to give you an idea;

An x-ray approx: From 500 euros.

An operation approx: From 12,000 euros

One day admitted to the hospital approx: From 4,500 euros

A basic consultation with a prescription approx: From 150 euros

I always travel with additional medical travel insurance. And that is why I think it is essential and recommended that you do it too.
