Are you organizing your trip to Vietnam and you need to know how to go from the city of Da Nang to the city of Hue?
It is a common journey, since both cities are essential on any trip to Vietnam. The journey lasts between 2 and 3 hours (105 km), depending on the chosen transport.
My recommended option is to do this journey by train (although I have done it twice, once by motorcycle and once by train). With the train you will have beautiful views throughout the journey, it is done quickly and is comfortable.
In this post I tell you all the options you have to do on the way from Da Nang to Hue, where to book tickets and some travel tips that can help you organize your trip.
HOW TO GO FROM DA NANG TO HUE, VIETNAM
By train, the most comfortable and fastest option to go from Da Nang to Hue
My recommendation is to make the journey by train. The journey is more comfortable and shorter. During the journey it only makes 2 stops in between. It will take between 2:30 and 3:00. You have the option of reserving cabins with bunk beds (in case of traveling at night, it could be an option to rest a little better) or you can choose a chair in three categories (first, second and third). First and second have comfortable armchairs and air conditioning. Third class is the cheapest option, but they are wooden benches (although the trains are being modernized and the seats are changing).
Depending on the type of chair you choose, the cost is between €2.50 and €8. Tickets are very cheap.
The best website to contract train, bus, plane tickets... to get around like this is 12go.asia. It is a secure website, with guaranteed payment and confirmation, you can choose the language and currency you want. In addition, it is a kind of search engine that offers you all the options to go from one place to another, all possible types of transport, prices...
By bus, another cheap option to go from Da Nang to Hue
The bus is another of the economic options to go from Da Nang to Hue. The journey lasts 3:30h and makes about 4 stops. Buses leave regularly, approximately every hour from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The cost ranges between €4.50 and €10.
They are usually regular couch buses or sleeper buses.
Although it is a good option, if you have the possibility to choose between bus and train, I recommend the train option.
In VIP transfers
If you dare to go from Da Nang to Hue by bus, before hiring the standard bus service, I advise you to hire the option of mini bus or VIP transfers. There are large vans or minibuses with huge and very comfortable armchairs. There are usually very few passengers and they are direct routes (except for the stops to go to the bathroom, which is usually one, on this route).
These types of buses are known as VIP Class Giang Limousine. The cost of the journey from Da Nang to Hue ranges from €8 to €12. As you can see, the difference is small.
By taxi, the most expensive option to go from Da Nang to Hue
If you don't feel like going to the three or bus station, carrying suitcases, or you're planning the trip with very little time and you can't find tickets for other transport, you still have the option of hiring a taxi. I recommend doing it online, where the price is agreed. You may be able to haggle a bit on the street, but from experience and after spending many months in Vietnam, taxi drivers often take advantage of it.
The cost of the taxi starts at 60 euros per trip (for 4 people and 2 large suitcases). This cost may increase as the date approaches, if it is high season...
The main advantage is that the taxi driver picks you up at your hotel in Da Nang, without the need to carry luggage from one place to another, and leaves you at your hotel in Hue. Also, if you are traveling as a family and with small children, if you need to stop to go to the bathroom, because they get dizzy... the taxi driver will adapt to you.
By motorcycle, the adventurous option to go from Da Nang to Hue
Many people choose to move around various places in Vietnam by motorcycle. On one of our trips to the country, we chose this option to move freely, get to know remote areas... however, it is quite uncomfortable.
Areas such as the north of Vietnam, Sapa and surroundings it is highly advisable to rent a motorcycle, but for distances of approximately 50km per day and return to Sapa to spend the night.
To visit Hoi An, it is also a good option. But to make such long journeys (3 hours without stopping) loaded with a backpack or suitcase... well, it's not such a good idea.
You also have to take into account that the motorcycles that they rent to you are usually quite used, with “questionable insurance” and that they heat up quite quickly, so you will have to stop many times.
The cost of a motorcycle rental in Vietnam ranges from €2 to €24 per day. (The more days the cheaper the day) and depending on where you contract the rental, the cost will always be one or the other. Attention! With the receptionist who wants to rent a motorcycle from a friend of his cousin etc… they are usually private motorcycles, without insurance, etc.
