How to get to Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai is one of the most beautiful cities in Thailand and a must on any trip touring the country. Getting to Chiang Mai is easy, you have many options, even an international airport. Depending on which part of Thailand you come from, one option or another suits you better.

In this post I talk about the options you have to get to Chiang Mai and travel tips that will help you organize your trip.

HOW TO GET TO CHIANG MAI, THAILAND

By plane, the best option if you arrive in Chiang Mai on an international flight or a local flight from the south of Thailand

If you are doing a tour of Thailand, and you arrive from Bangkok, you have several options, but the most comfortable is the plane. You can find local flights for 20 euros, depending on the season of the year.

By bus or by train

If you are traveling from Bangkok or Ayutthaya or Chiang Rai you can get to Chiang Mai by bus or train. It is not the most comfortable or fastest option, but it is an economical option. Especially since they are usually overnight trips and in this way you save on a hotel night.

GETTING AROUND CHIANG MAI

If you are only thinking of visiting the city of Chiang Mai, once you arrive at the airport or the bus/train station, I recommend you take a taxi. It is a comfortable, fast and quite economical option.

If, on the other hand, you would be interested in taking a tour of the Doi Inthanon National Park, visiting the outskirts of Chiang Mai, getting to know Pai and even reaching Chiang Rai or/and Sukhoithai, I recommend renting a car. Rentals are becoming more frequent and quite cheap.

HOW MANY DAYS WILL YOU NEED TO VISIT CHIANG MAI

Minimum 3 days. If you want to add the north of Thailand to your route, and get to know the most essential places, I recommend adding to your route at least: 3 nights Chiang Mai, 2 nights Chiang Rai, 2 nights Sukhothai, 1 night Pai.

You can go to the main page of Thailand on the blog to download complete guides and itineraries where it is very well detailed what to do per day, and thus make the most of your days in Thailand.
