WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN HIRIKETIYA, SRI LANKA
Surfing in Hiriketiya, one of the best things to do in Sri Lanka
Hiriketiya Bay features two key surf spots. The center of the beach offers beach breaks ideal for beginners, while the left end (reef break) delivers faster waves for intermediate and advanced surfers.
Sunrise or sunset yoga sessions
Multiple spots hidden in the coastal jungle offer morning and sunset yoga classes surrounded by nature. Many hotels even include this in their activities or offer it for a small additional fee.
Sunsets in Dikwella Bay
Walk 10 minutes to the neighboring Dikwella Beach to enjoy an unobstructed horizon, sunset walks, and palm-tree swings.
Turtle spotting, a top activity in Hiriketiya
With basic snorkel gear, it is very common to swim alongside sea turtles near the rocks at either end of the bay.
WHERE TO STAY IN HIRIKETIYA, SRI LANKA
Hiriketiya is not known for being an overly luxurious destination. In fact, until a few years ago, it was primarily a backpacker hub filled with simple guesthouses and basic hotels. Over time—and largely thanks to social media—the area grew in popularity, bringing in higher-end boutique hotels. However, you won't find massive resorts here, which I personally love because it keeps the area's authentic charm alive.
