1. Copenhagen, an essential thing to see in Denmark
Copenhagen is an essential stop on your trip to Denmark. The city is beautiful with its cobbled streets, colorful houses, castles and palaces. In addition, it offers many things to do. From cultural visits to bike rides along the banks of the Nyhavn Canal, or spending it like a child in the Tivoli Gardens.

You can visit the city of Copenhagen in two days, although they will do it in a hurry. If you have time and can give it more days, the ideal is 4, to be able to see all the essential places and fully enjoy the atmosphere of the city.
2. Odense
Odense was the birthplace of the writer and poet Hans Christian Andersen and is located on the beautiful island of Funen, almost 2 hours from Copenhagen. The historic center is beautiful, with a very relaxed atmosphere, low houses of multiple colors, cobblestone streets... In the same city you will find the museum dedicated to the author, Hans Christian Andersen, known for being the writer of some of the most famous children's stories. the world like the Ugly Duckling or the Little Mermaid.
In the city you cannot miss a visit to the H.C Andersens Haven Park, the Funen Village open-air museum or the beautiful Gothic-style St. Knud Cathedral.
3. Egeskov Castle, one of the most beautiful castles to see in Denmark
The Castle or the Egeskov Palace is located on the island of Funen. This 15th century castle is one of the best preserved castles in Europe surrounded by water. When it was finished in 1554, the building was a defensive fortress with a single entrance, the drawbridge and two buildings connected by a double wall. Currently, it is surrounded by a lake and a park with several garden areas and various sculptures.
4. Mons Klint
The cliffs of Mons Klint are a beautiful landscape that you cannot miss on your tour of the country. It is one of its natural wonders.
These limestone cliffs are 100 meters high, stretching along the coast for about 6 km, on the island of Møn, south of Copenhagen.
If you get here, don't just stay at the viewpoint, take the opportunity to get to the beach or enjoy trekking along the nearby trails. There are trails that go into the forest and others that go along the coast.
5. Roskilde
Roskilde is located about 30km from Copenhagen, you can take the train from the central station to get there, rent a car or book an excursion to Roskilde from Copenhagen.
In Roskilde is possibly the most beautiful cathedral in Denmark. Gothic in style and declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. In this temple, the main monarchs of the Danish Royal House rest.
You can also visit the Viking Ship Museum. Among the vessels in the collection is the largest Viking ship in the world at 37 meters in length.
6. Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse, one of the most beautiful places to see in Denmark
The Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse is one of the most famous abandoned places in the world, situated in a stunning setting.
This lighthouse is 120 years old, and is surrounded by beach sand and cliffs. The Lighthouse is no longer in operation since 1968, because sometimes it was buried by sand dunes and the ships could not see the light.
In 2019 a very complicated work was carried out to save its structure. It was moved 70 meters inland using rails because it was estimated that in 2023 the lighthouse would collapse when it was engulfed by water.
7. Kronborg Castle
The Castle is located about 50 km from Copenhagen. And I have included it in the top 20 things to see and do in Copenhagen.
This castle is in the Renaissance style of the late fifteenth century and was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. It had the function of monitoring and collecting a tax for the passage through the Oresund Strait. Its fame is due to the fact that it was the setting where Hamlet, William Shakespeare's masterpiece, takes place.

8. Legoland
Legoland is the most famous amusement park in Denmark and you will find it in the small town of Billund.
This outdoor park was built in the year 1968 by the founder of LEGO Ole Kirk Christiansen, who was born in Billund.
It is a spectacular place to see the huge LEGO constructions and enjoy a fun and relaxed atmosphere. If you travel with or without children, you cannot leave Legoland out of your tour of Denmark.
9. Frederiksborg Castle
Frederiksborg Castle was built between 1560 and 1630. It was the summer residence of the Danish royal family until the middle of the 19th century.
Currently, you can visit the interior where the National Museum of History, the royal rooms, a small church, the great hall and the interior patio are located. Without forgetting the Baroque-style gardens that surround the Castle.
The Castle is about a half hour drive from Copenhagen. If you are going to rent a car, take the opportunity to get closer to Lake Arresø and some of the cliffs that overlook the Roskilde Fjord, the landscapes are spectacular.

10. Aarhus, one of the most interesting cities to see in Denmark

11. Bornholm
About 200km from Copenhagen is the island of Bornholm. It is located near the coasts of Poland and Sweden, and is said to be the sunniest area in Denmark.
This rural and authentic looking island is the perfect place to disconnect for two or three days. Here you will find sharp cliffs, beautiful beaches, dense forests, fishing villages, craft workshops such as ceramics and glass, charming churches and endless paths that take you to fairy tale houses and very magical corners. It is one of the most spectacular places in the country!
12. Skagen
The city takes its name from the cape that separates the North Sea from the Baltic Sea and is the northernmost Danish town, right at the tip of the Jutland Peninsula.
It is a place of wild and impressive landscapes. Skagen's scenic beauty was what attracted an important group of Danish painters who founded a school here in the 19th century.
Apart from enjoying a beautiful natural environment, take time to walk among its small yellow houses with white gates, visit the fishing port and enjoy its beaches.
The best thing is that to get to know the area and enjoy it to the fullest, rent a bicycle in the center. With it you can get lost among the dunes of the beach, find small churches scattered around the area and enjoy every detail. We only spent two days here and they flew by.
13. Rabjerg Mile
Very close to Skagen, you can visit the largest migratory dune in northern Europe. The wind moves the dune in a northeasterly direction up to 18 meters per year. During the 16th and 17th centuries it caused a lot of damage to the population, entire towns were covered and the lands could not be cultivated. At present, they already have it under control and it is something curious to do if you are in the area.
14. Rømø, Wadden Islands
Among the Danish Frisian islands, Rømø is the most beautiful. It has an area of 130 km2 and is inhabited by a maximum of a thousand people.
The island of Rømø practically lives on tourism. If you go in mid or low season you will find areas without people, deserted beaches and you will be able to enjoy this place a lot. In high season the island is filled with local tourism that comes from cities in Denmark and foreign tourism.

17. Lindholm Hoje
This rock-strewn field is actually a vast burial ground where the bodies of 700 Vikings are buried.
Most of the burials were cremations, although several burials were also discovered. The type of burial depended on the period. The most curious thing is that several hundred circles made of stones surround the tombs. And the forms were based on the status of the person. It is a very interesting place to visit, as well as curious.
18. Dragør
Dragør is one of the most picturesque and charming towns in Denmark. It is a fishing village located 15km south of Copenhagen. Stroll through its streets full of colorful houses, have a drink in one of its bars with small terraces and take the opportunity to buy some crafts.

It is a small city (more like a large town) very quiet, we hardly come across tourists and it has a very authentic atmosphere.
20. Tønder
And speaking of towns, we couldn't leave out Tønder. We fell in love as soon as we arrived!
This town of just over seven thousand inhabitants is located in the south of Denmark and very close to the border with Germany. The beauty of its old town invites you to get lost in its streets. It is a small fishing village and is considered one of the most beautiful in the country.
