In 1933, the first prisoners began to arrive at the Dachau concentration camp and during the 12 years that it was in operation, more than 200,000 prisoners passed through there, of whom more than 40,000 were murdered. It went from being a labor camp to one for prisoners, and later to a place of extermination.
