Bernkastel-kues is one of the most beautiful and romantic towns in Germany. An authentic jewel of cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, flower-filled balconies and unique corners.
Bernkastel-kues is located in the Moselle Valley, a privileged enclave. It is close to Cochem and the Reichsburg Castle. Although the population is small, there are several places to visit. Ideally, you should walk through it aimlessly, admiring every detail and enjoying the special atmosphere that reigns in it.
The Market Square is the most romantic corner of Bernkastel, without a doubt. It is surrounded by colorful half-timbered houses from the 17th century.
In it we can find the Town Hall and a fountain. It is a pedestrian area, with a cobbled street and a meeting point for both locals and travelers. Here you will find small shops and restaurants.
This architectural jewel dates from the year 1608. During Christmas, an Advent calendar is revealed in its windows. We visited the town in summer, in its windows hung a lot of pots full of flowers.
It is one of the most curious buildings in Bernkastel. In addition to being the oldest in the town, dating from 1416, the fact that the base is narrower than the upper floors is very curious. And unlike many of the buildings in the city, which are attached to each other, this small house has the advantage of being unique and not having neighbors attached to the sides.
In the town there are several fountains. All of them are usually a meeting point, since there is no way to photograph them without people sitting in them. The most popular and important in the city is the Fountain of San Miguel, located in Marktplatz. Also find the fountain of the Bears and the fountain of the doctor.
This beautiful church is located on the banks of the Moselle River, it stands out mainly for its clock. Although all of her is very flirtatious. Its tower was built 600 years ago and is one of the most remarkable buildings in the city. Do not miss it!
The Graacher Tower was once the welcome gate to the city. Today it is housed in the regional museum of Bernkastel.
Bernkastel-Kues Castle was built in the 13th century and was used by the Archbishops of Trier. A fire almost completely destroyed it in 1692, so today only its ruins remain. Giving it a mystical air.
You can go up here, discover the corners that remain of the ruins and enjoy spectacular views of the town.
The most beautiful thing about this town is that all its streets are beautiful and have many details. With houses attached to each other, they find houses of all colors, although pastel tones and red predominate.
